Should i take my baby to doctors?

Question

This isn't urgent before you think i'm asking here before going to hospital. My son is 5 weeks old and has caught the cold off me, he is coughing which sounds quite mucusy. He is also sneezing and has runny eyes. Should i take him to the doctors or let him ride it out himself? 😕

From what I have experienced before, they probably won't do anything if there is no fever. Run a cool must humidifier, and use saline drops for his nose to help thin the mucus.

The ER probably won't do anything unless they have a fever. And not like 99.9. Our hospital said they don't even consider it bad until 104+, kids run higher temps than we do. If they stop eating then be careful they don't get dehydrated. That would be an ER visit. Otherwise I would say go to your regular dr on Monday.

Personal preferance but I didn't bother taking my daughter in for colds. I just treated how I'd treat mine. Tylenol, fluids, rest. I used baby vicks on my daughter chest and back, I got a vicks vaporizer that used the vapopads for at night that heats them up and releases vapor into the air to keep her breathing clearer at night, and I used saline nose drops as needed during the day. I also let my daughter sleep in air reclined position. Strapped into her swing that I moved to my bedroom when she was sick so she was secure but able to breath better (Dr said it was safe). Also give Tylenol every 6 hrs even if babe doesn't have a fever because think of how you feel during a cold, your head hurts, your body aches. They probably feel the same.

Definitely a cool mist humidifier. Might take him to be careful just to make sure it doesn't turn into something worse.

Moist wash cloth for eyes, humidifier for stuffiness, Tylenol if he's uncomfortable, can suction nose if he's building up there.. That's pretty much all they're going to do at the hospital if they even do that.. If he's not running a high fever then they generally won't do anything at all besides charge you for coming in and getting advice.. If he starts running a high fever yes take him in.. You can call his pediatrician on Monday to see if they have any more tips.. Just keep an eye on him..

I would call the doctor's office and ask them what they think you should do but if they have a fever higher than a 100.4F then you should take them to the ER
