Can I skip my period this month if I quick started my birth control pills?

I started my birth control pills during this cycle. I use it to control PMS symptoms and it's been sooooo nice not having to worry about drastic mood swings, depression, or severe bloating, and I would really prefer it if I could even skip the one week of the month where I would experience these horrible symptoms.
My concern, however, is that I quick started my pills since I didn't need them as protection. My period started July 5th and I started my pills on the 13th. Without the pills, I'd be starting my period tomorrow and with them I'd be starting it in a day or two. Also, for the past week I've been getting light cramps and that unsettling feeling I'm going to start my period, but obviously I'm not going to. Is that normal? Or is it in my head? It's the only side effect I have from the pill, so if it is a normal side effect than I'm okay with it.
So, the question is: can I skip my period without any risks? Will I experience any side effects for not having a period? Does it make a difference that I used the quick start method?
By the way, I'm taking Zarah, the generic of Yasmin. If that makes a difference. It's a monophasic pill that contains both estrogen and progestin.
