Any foster parents out there??

Question

I would LOVE to be a foster parent. Hubby and I are moving in a year to a different state, so we would start the process then; but, I would love to hear from you all now about your experiences.

We would not look to go the foster to adoption route, just looking to help out a handful of children in their time of need. I work as a school psychologist so I have a soft spot for all these children and just want to do everything I can to help some out.

Please tell me about your experiences as a foster parent and any suggestions or advice

I am not a foster parent, but I'm right there with you! I have a strong desire to foster children at some point in my life. 
I follow lots of blogs, Instagram accounts,  and Facebook accounts of families who have opened their homes to foster children. Most of them are very good at letting the public in on the raw hardships that come with caring for broken people. Watching them from afar is a great resource, or you can reach out to them for advice and stories! 
Definitely surround yourself with other foster families before beginning to foster on your own. You'll build a great community of friends and you'll have a strong support system for when you're at the end of your rope.

As is my aunty.

You have to be financially able to foster. They check your financial history, your employment and relationship status, they check your health records for any serious life threatening or mental illnesses and they also check criminal convictions of both prospective foster parents.

The social workers come out and assess your home also.

It's a long process.

This won't answer your question but I've been searching high and low for a psychologist on this app. But what's your job like? This is my major and wanted to hear first hand

When I was younger I was in foster care for a short time due to my mum not being able to care for me (drug issues) the plan was for me to go with my Nan and grandad as I did but honestly my carers was the best people ever, it's such a hard, rewarding job and I would respect you so much. They also adopted my younger sister as my grandparents were to old to care for a baby
