Gestational diabetes.  I had to take a class and talked about carbs etc. I just took the class last week.  In my class, talked about how it affects the baby, what you may expect after delivering the baby.  Gave a sample menu.  My dietician did not give a strict diet. But she did set some boundaries up.  She said no sweets or desserts....My theory....breyers ice cream makes an ice cream that is carb smart 4 grams of sugar and is sweetened with splenda.  Btw, it tastes similar to whip cream.  I gotta go all the way until my boy is born, darn it every once in while in moderation    and I am good.

You are put on a strict low carb diet to control your blood sugar. Normally you test your blood sugar throughout the day with a meter. If it's super high you could be put on insulin. Really depends on your situation

Uncontrolled gestational diabetes can cause extremely large babies, the 9-12 lbs. It makes birth more difficult for mom and baby, and increases chances of needing a c section. I agree with the other comment about treatment.
