BC question??

Question

I'm going to the doctor in a couple days to talk about getting on birth control. My fiance and I are moving in together and since we're both starting school we want to be super safe and use condoms as well. 
So, can I get a few experience stories? How is your experience with the pill? Patch? Shots? Inserty things? 
I know, I'm asking my doctor when I go but I want to hear some experiences from other ladies. 👏🏻 thank you guys!

After my pregnancy I started using the pill but it messed with my hormones that I stopped. About a month or so later, my boyfriend took me to the doctor and the three of us discussed different brith controls (might sound weird but he is very supportive and I feel he should know just in case)... We ended up going with the Paraguard, it is an IUD (intrauterine device) with no hormones so you get typical periods (pain and all). It is a 10yr birth control and at your annual visit they check to make sure it's still in place. I was told if at any moment we would like to try for babies, have it removed and you can try that same day. Also I heard (from my cousin) if you feel any unusual pains to have it checked immediately to make sure it did not cause any damage. But that is one option.

To be honest, I had pretty poor experiences with birth control pills. To be fair, I haven't tried any other form of hormone contraception or IUD. I felt super nauseous, got migraines regularly, gained a bit of weight, and just felt emotionally uneasy.  Everyone is totally different when it comes to contraceptives though, just be sure to voice any side effects to your doctor so they can switch you if necessary.
