Gender Roles

Lauren
I just witnessed a sad representation of our society, breeding judgement instead of love, or even just tolerance. I was in line at the store and the kids in front of me were looking at the stuff stocked along the line, as kids typically do. The youngest boy picks up a pair of pink sunglasses and with a big smile brings them over to his mom saying "Mom, I like these ones!" Right as he said it, his brothers rushed over, taking the sunglasses from him and telling him that he couldn't like those because they were girl sunglasses. Because obviously pink meant feminine. And obviously feminine wasn't okay for boys. These boys were no older than 7 and already they knew the rules assigned to each sex. As if telling people what they can and can't like because of their gender was normal. As if it was okay.
