Missed a twin at 16w ultrasound?

Is it possible for an ultrasound tech (especially at a place where they dont usually do fetal ultrasounds) for them to miss a twin at a 16 week ultrasound?

Not likely at all especially since ultrasounds have come so far and 16 weeks is pretty far along. My family swore I was having twins but the doctor confirmed only one babe at 12 weeks and 16 weeks.

My sister in law found out at 11 weeks.

A family friend didn't find out she was having twins until 4 WEEKS before her due date. Anything is possible lol - however unlikely ! 
(The twins are 12 now so ultrasound has improved a bit since then too)
