IUD: Is it worth it?

I'm considering getting an IUD (Skyla) but have read reviews and stories online about the insertion procedure being painful. I already don't do well with paps..they make me anxious and its uncomfortable. What's everyone's experiences on here?

I had Skyla myself. I recently had it removed due to my fiancé being able to feel it and a lot of the time it was painful during sex for me. I also had terrible cramps constantly for 7 months! They would wake me up in the middle of the night and I was in instant tears. One night, my mom even said it looked like I was in labor! It was horrible! Everyone is different and you could have a different reaction but I hated it!!

I had the skyla and at my 2 month check up i had it removed. Its different for everybody but i didnt like it, my fiance could feel the strings when we had sex and i would get really bad cramps afterwards. I almost passed out when i had it inserted, it was not a good time. Very painful. But i know girls that have had it put in and didnt feel it and they absolutely love it. Different for everyone i guess.

I'm 18 with no kids. It wasn't the worst pain but it was very uncomfortable for a few seconds, then it faded. For me it was worth it 3 years of not worrying about missing pills or accidental condoms breaking. Soooo worth it so far. The actual insertion didn't hurt. The device the gyno uses that opens your cervix first to measure is bigger then the insertion device by the way. So after that bit the pain is lessened.

I've had Skyla for almost 2 months now. The insertion wasn't bad at all, I actually didn't feel it. It just felt like they were pulling my uterus. I was at my 6 week post partum check up when I got it. Now, I got it in on a Wednesday and that Friday I started my period . I bled for 25 days straight, a mixture of heavy blood and spotting. I was ready to take it out. But it's settled down a bit. Only thing is, today I got major cramps and they were almost unbearable ! I'm debating if I'm going to keep it or not. 🤔

I love mine! The insertion was practically nothing (feels like a bad menstral cramp for 1-2 minutes). I had MINOR cramps for about a month and spotting (nothing a panty liner couldn't handle) and now everything is normal.

I freaked myself out about the horror stories I read online. When you go back for the follow up (about a month after insertion) get the string trimmed to ensure your partner won't feel them. Also, when going for the insertion, take about 600mg-800mg of ibuprofen.
