Wet underwear with a tampon I'm???

So sometimes when I'm on my period and wearing a tampon, my underwear will be wet. It's definitely not urine. It also has a funky smell. What is it??

I've noticed that too and I'll get it when I haven't even peed, I'm convinced that it is discharge, as I get discharge right along with my period.
