Why 12 weeks?

I just don't understand why people tell you to tell everyone else that you're pregnant at 12 weeks or after 12 weeks?

Most people wait until the chances of miscarriage goes down, however I believe that it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen regardless of when you tell people. We told our families and posted it in Facebook the day we found out. I was 5w2d

Because u have more of a chance to miscarry before 12 weeks than u do after. I didnt tell anyone until 20 weeks after my first miscarriage lol.

You can share earlier of course but we personally chose only to tell people out of necessity or because they are close enough friends/family that sharing the news of miscarriage wouldn't be too painful if it happens. We decided that if it did happen, these select people would be necessary sources of comfort and support. In contrast, I would rather not have to tell my boss I'm pregnant only to have to tell him a few weeks later that I lost the baby.

Many people are trying M to avoid explaining a miscarriage which chances drop significantly at 12 weeks (after first trimester).

I conceived via IUI and had been blogging about my fertility journey already.  So once I had my first ultrasound at 5 weeks I shared my pregnancy with the world.  I decided I could deal with miscarriage if it happened.

(*i would like to note my hubby disagreed with me telling so early.  He has warmed up to it since, as he can now openly talk about it, but he also wanted to wait)

People wait until the chance of miscarriage goes down, my husband and I announced when I was 7 weeks. We were told I'd never conceive my own child so not telling the world was hard when it was a HUGE surprise.
