Mattress cover, mattress pad, mattress pad cover?

Question

Okay, I know what a mattress pad is....I think.  But what the heck is a mattress pad cover?  And do I really need a mattress pad cover if I already have a waterproof mattress pad?  I think my mattress pad is waterproof.  And do I put the cover on top of the pad?  I'm so confused!

None of the above for me! I just put the sheet straight on the mattress. If by chance there's a diaper leak, I just change the sheets and wipe down the mattress with Lysol. It's still in great shape after 20 months and will be passed on to little sis soon. And honestly, finding good diapers that fit your kid well will prevent most (not all, but most) diaper leaks and explosions, which is really what all those pads and covers are for. I've learned that trying to stay in smaller diapers longer does not end well for us. I've also learned that my daughter drinks so much that she needs overnight diapers both at bedtime and at naps. Adding the overnight diapers at nap time changed my life.

I got the waterproof pad and a sheet, and then did double layers so I could easily pull of one layer in the middle of the night if need be. I have some of these covers but not sure if I'll use them.

I might get some sort of plastic thing but you know what a friend told me to use?

Puppy pads. Disposable, just as absorbent, and super easy to use. I think I might try that lol
