Personally I don't, but there's a fine line between a small punishment and abuse. When a child is spanked it should just be enough so they realize what they did was wrong, and hopefully they won't do it again. A spanking should never be to release your anger because the child did something wrong, because when you are angry, you tend to spank harder than necessary and that's when it gets into abuse rather than simple punishment.

Two open handed whacks to a meaty portion of the body, was explained to me by a friend who was also MP on Fort Bliss. So I try to use that model. But... Tbh if my son is rude, disrespectful, or throws an attitude he will get a quick pop with my fingers or palm on the mouth or back of the head. I'm not raising a punk.

I have never hit my kid, and everyone we meet says he is the most well behaved child they've ever met.  I have always talked to my child like a regular person.  Baby talk always seems belittling to me like you're treating your child like an animal.  If there has ever been a problem of any kind I remove my son from the situation and talk to him about it, explain why I think that was wrong and how other people might have taken it as well.  I ask him to put himself in those shoes and ask how he would feel if it was done to him.  A lot of the time children don't know they've done something wrong until it is explained.  Hitting someone bc you don't like something they've said or done is a punishable crime, why would it be different for children?

If it leaves any kind of mark- it's abuse. And I (along with many other people)are required by law to report it to CPS.
