At what point does the birth control pill protect you from getting pregnant?

So I started the birth control pill (to be exact, I'm on my first packet and on the 18th pill) and I was wondering at what day, week, or packet will the pill start to work, as in protect you from not getting pregnant when you have unprotected sex?

You're protected once you've been taking it for 7 days. From then on you're protected 24/7 (unless you miss or take it incorrectly).

No it's not after 7 days. If this is your first time, it takes 2 months for the pill to work well, before these 2 months keep wearing condoms etc!

Ok so what if on one of those 7 days I was an hour late taking it on like the 5 day.. Am I still protected after the 7 days?
