When do kids start going to school in California?

Because we just moved here from France and I'm not sure and Google is kinda confusing. (I'm an old mom)

Depends on what part of California you ate moving to,  but usually it's after/around labor day. 
Start by searching the area you want to live in and then search that school district.

My cousin just posted her two girls went back to school today and she is in Hemit (probably spelled that wrong.) California.

School will be different between each city (and even each school district within a city)

If it is traditional school, the will start mid/late August and go through the beginning of June. Then have all summer off.

If it is year round they will spend 3 months in school, then get one month off, and 3 months on, and so on...

As for how old you are - where I grew up the cut off date was December 31. So if you turned 5 by December 31 you could start kindergarten in August even though you are only 4. (This could be different in other cities in California.)

If you have been working with a realtor, they should know a little bit about the schools in your area. They will know what boundaries your house is in and what school your kids would attend.

It depends on the type of school and which district. I think for me school started late August early September. I remember being in school when 9-11 happened. But I was also in Long Beach, CA.

Age 4/5 is for kindergarten. I started at age 4 but that was considered early for me

Do you mean at what age or what time of year? Age is 5 years old to enroll in public kindergarten. Date is mid August but every school will be different.
