Respect & sacrifice?

My SO and I are having a really deep talk about respect in our relationship as well as sacrifices. What sacrifices have you made for your SO? And how do you show them respect?

Answer

I don't really view anything between us as a sacrifice, now or before we were married. If you are making "sacrifices" you should question whether you are with the right person. The things we do for each other are out of unconditional love and commitment, and because we want to do them. I'm not missing out on anything because of the relationship we have; I am 100% happy with all of it.

When we started dating, we lived in two different cities, about an hour apart from each other. He'd always drive to spend time with me and never complained about it. Eventually, I ended up moving to his city, so now I live about an hour away from my family. I quit my job because the commute was too much. I had a good life, but now my life is a lot better. I show him respect by having lunch prepared for work before he wakes up or the night before. Little things like that, but I also let him know I love him every day and not irritate him with every little thing. I understand that he works hard for everything we have, so it's not necessary for me to make a big deal out of everything little thing.

One of the biggest sacrifices I've made so far was driving an hour every other weekend to see him while he was in college. He didn't have a car to come see me & I kept our relationship going because it meant something. He knows the sacrifice I made for us as well. 
A way we show respect is not bailing on each other when we have set plans, never cheating or flirting, communicating what the other is feeling & doing during the day. We have this "rule" (not really a rule more of a guideline?) that when were upset we try tell the other & suggest a way to fix it. Example: today my SO was calling me woman in a joking manner but I still didn't like it because I thought it was a disrespectful term & I wish he would say nicer things towards me. He agreed. 
Relationships are about give & take but also communication. At the end of the day it really comes down to can I tell him what's hurting my feelings / be open with him? If not there's a problem for me.
