It depends on lots of things. If either you or your SO is rushing into the armed forces, I'd get married before they leave. There's nothing wrong with having a very short engagement. But there's also nothing wrong with having a long engagement. My faincee and I are getting married two and a half years after the proposal

Definitely depends on your situation. I would say 1-2 years is pretty normal. But my parents got married after barely 3 months. My dad played professional baseball. So he proposed in October and they were married in January. That's how long the offseason is for all you non-baseball fans.
