I mean there's two sides to that question. Yes they shouldn't care because they shouldn't have anything to hide. But no, you should also trust them and respect their privacy.

We both know each other's passwords, so if he wants to check my phone he can. I have never had to check his phone so far because he's pretty open about who he's texting and stuff like that. However, we respect each other's privacy, so I think you should do so too. Unless there's some special agreement going on between the two of you.

My boyfriend and I have a very trusting relationship. Unfortunately, he's known me through some rough times. We've been friends for about 5 year and just started dating about 4 months ago. He will go through my phone just because he knows that I have cheated on guys in the past and I'm his first girlfriend ever. He's afraid of getting his heart broken. I don't mind. I purposely leave my phone with him or laying around. It keeps the peace and I have nothing to hide. That's just my perspective tho. When it comes to him, I admit I have gone through his Facebook and found he's addicted to getting nudes (before we dated) but other than that, I honestly don't care

I used to be that wife that would go through my Husbands phone. He hasnt physically cheated or at least I pray not but one point in our relationship he was very distant and I had this inkling that he was doing something I wasnt going to like so I would check. Yes I am suppose to trust him but when you have this gut feeling and know he is going to lie because he knows you will be upset go with your gut. Then have a sit down about it. He was talking to a girl I didnt feel comfortable with him talking to. I mean he would literally console her with I mean paragraphs and with me its get over it. Then one night he was having guys night with my brother and they didnt come home until 5 in the morning. My bro was drunk and my husband was looking at me like he saw a ghost when he saw me sitting on the couch like wtf. He went to her house the whole night. I havent done it since. He tells me they just hanged. I just i dont know. I still have doubts and feelings he did something out of smite. I still love him with all my heart and am still trying to forgive him. I hold on to stuff for too long. I digress. I think it shouldnt be an issue if you look without ask but out of respect ask.

My husband and I both use each other's phone ask if they were our own. We know each other's passwords... We are life partners we share everything. Plus my phone is always dead, and I use his phone all the time. We have nothing to hind from each-other.  No biggie.

You should respect their privacy and shouldn't purposely go on their phone to see if they are cheating. My husband and I use each other's phones regularly. But not once have I ever looked through his messages.
