CO2 poisoning??

Hey guys, wanted your thoughts on something. My fiancé has an older truck and we are not sure how, since his truck was inspected, a pipe broke and was releasing fumes. I guess it didn't effect the drivability of the truck since it went on for a while. But his mechanic said that since it went unnoticed my fiancé might want to set up a doctors appointment because he was breathing in fumes every time he drove his truck. He went on a 9 hour road trip as well and I'm really worried about him. He said he's had horrible headaches and I feel aweful for not being able to put this together sooner. He's getting a checkup this weekend but I'm really worried about him.. Any advice for us? I don't know anything about CO2 but I will be watching him pretty closely. Lesson learned ALWAYS get your car checked out if something seems off especially if it's an older model.
