Who should I see...?????

Ok y'all. This is my first experience with civilian doctors. I'm pretty sure I'm developing ppd again and I don't know who I should see about it. Is it my OB/gyn? Do I go to a regular doc? I'm overwhelmed on top of everything too so this is just adding to it all....

Ik it sounds stupid to some but I'm used to going to one place and having everything taken care of by one doc and not 20.

It depends on how your healthcare plan is set up, as each type operates differently. You can call your customer service or membership services or enrollment line to check your insurance benefits, if they're not available online; they'll tell you what mental health treatment is covered (like how many free visits per year and if there's a copay) and whether it has to be done with specific doctors "in the system" that they've pre-approved. That'll get you an idea of the extent of treatment you're eligible for, if you wanted to see a private therapist or psychiatrist, so you're not going in for help unaware of your options.

However, if that isn't immediately straightforward, just skip that step! Almost every healthcare plan requires a referral from your obgyn or primary care doctor to get "specialist" treatment (mental health is often "specialist" if you haven't already been in treatment with a doctor). If you're not sure, just like the military, the sure bet is to go see your primary care doctor and they'll refer you out to whatever services you need, then you have a record in the computer allowing you to make an appointment with the specialist. Sometimes they'll even make the appointment for you; if not, they can tell you how.

Healthcare is really convoluted, especially as a civilian when it can work all kinds of different ways. It's definitely not a bad question! Sorry you're already dealing with ppd symptoms; but you can definitely get help, and I hope it works out really easily for you!
