How long are car seats usually good for after they are bought?

I was told that they expire 6years after the manufacturer date.  The plastics get brittle over time and they can break easily, not working on impact.  Same applies to biking helmets.

It's really unsafe to use an expired car seat because the plastic is flimsy. They usually expire 8-10 years after purchase. Expiration is usually on the seat

Usually expires after 5 years, varies from brand to brand. Check the date under the seat.
