Labor?!?

Question

What are all the steps of going in to labor? When do I go to the hospital? Do I call first? I'm a ftm I'm getting close to my baby girl being here and I'm getting nervous 😳

Unfortunately, there are no set steps for labor as every woman and pregnancy is different. Something you can look for that signals a woman is getting close to labor, although it can be anywhere from a few hours to a week or more, is the loss of your mucus plug or your "bloody show". That is normally one of the first things you will experience that will give you a heads up, so to speak, but I never lost mine prior to being induced with my firstborn. You can either have your water break first or you can just start into regular contractions when the time comes. Those steps are never really the same for anyone. I didn't experience contractions until my water broke, but numerous women have contractions prior to their water breaking. My doctor said once my true contractions become 5 minutes apart on a consistent basis, to get up and head to the hospital. If my water were to break prior to having any contractions, get up and head to the hospital. She said there is no need to call ahead, because I'd be wasting time just to be told to come in. She said just go to the hospital, once Im admitted in, they will take care of the rest. However, every doctor and hospital is different in terms of how they run. That'd be a good question for your OBGYN or midwife so you know what they expect from you.

Regardless of how it happens or what order, it will be okay. You may be a first time mom, but you have instincts that will kick in when the time comes. You will be okay and everything will fall into place! Good luck ❤️

-Time contractions, if your not sure what it feels like when your in enough pain go in to see if your dilated, or wait til water breaks.
-Pre-register on hospitals Web page, call or u can just go directly in to labor and delivery.
-Have you hospital bag ready with insurance card, clothes, toiletries etc.
-Call you support team mom, family member, friend. But take care of you first.

I had my daughter in march. I was 4 cm dilated for 2 weeks before having her so I was pretty much a walking timebomb. I went over due by 1 day though!

I thought I was in labor so I told my husband and kept track of the contractions and then they started getting closer and stronger so I knew I was in labor. I grabbed my over night bag and all the baby stuff and we headed to the hospital. I call my doctors office and let the operator know I was in labor and going to the hospital. We headed in and hubby dropped me off at er because it was after hours and they signed me in and I filled out paperwork and was rushed to a room. I changed and then they checked me and I had to wait for epidural and antibiotics for GBS. Got epidural and waited a few hours and then pushed baby out.

Just don't panic!

I'm also I FTM, but from what I understand every practice and hospital is different. My hospital had me call a few months ago to pre register. So when I go into labor I just show up and they will check to see where I'm at in the labor process and admit me if I'm far enough along. My OBs office always has a doctor on call so the hospital will notify him/her when I am admitted. I know some people are supposed to call their doctor's office when they are getting ready to go to the hospital.

You can call your hospital and/or doctor and ask them what their policy is.
