WHY DID I DO THAT

I met a boy and I really really liked him. He was perfect,so nice and we had a lot of the same hobbies.  He asked me out so we went went on a "date". I said I would see him tonight so we parted ways to go get ready. I get there and we were having fun and then I told him I had to go and he walked me out he goes in for a kiss and I go in for a hug. I could tell he was crushed but I didn't want to have my first kiss with a boy I might not ever see again.  I FEEL SO BAD and I texted him saying how sorry I was and he just opened it and didn't reply. I feel horrible!!!! Any advice on why to do?
