What To Expect When You're Expecting

Question

Am I the only one who despises this book? I still read it but it scares the crap out of me with its alarmist descriptions of everything. Not to mention some of the info in it conflicts with stuff my doctor says or things other reputable sources say-including medical academic journals. I can't be the only one who has noticed. I really have developed a hatred of the book in the past 31 weeks. Recommendations for a better pregnancy book are welcome!

I hated that book as well. Here are a few that I read:

Expecting Better by Emily Oster
Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy by Vicki Iovine 
Your pregnancy: Week by Week by Glade Curtis

The last one gave too much info about things that happen very rarely during pregnancy. But the first 2 I enjoyed.

I've found over time that most books on pregnacy and parenting are only good as door stops.

My doctor told me not to read it that his office gets way too many calls from people who read it and freak out.

Anything written by Ina May Gaskin i.e.: Spiritual Midwifery or IMG Guide to childbirth. These are great for non medicated births and amazing birth stories.

Honestly i dont even have those books i dont want to freak myself out. I usually have my mom and family members give me their experiences.

I honestly haven't even opened the book since my doctors office gave it to me. Medical information and interventions change so much and everyone has different opinions on every topic that I feel like a book may be a little biased at times. That's just my opinion though!
