Cramping before labor?

Anyone experience period like cramps somewhat on and off before actual contractions and labor?

I'm cramping every night into the morning (could be longer but when I'm trying to sleep is when I mostly notice it). All I can say is ouch!! And my Braxton hicks cause me to lose my breath sometimes because they're so tight... I can't wait to have this over and my little guy in my arms.

My OB two weeks ago said that the cramping (since it was lasting for long periods at a time) was just my uterus "exercising." Last Thursday I saw a different doctor, I was already 1.5cm dilated, & she told me the cramping is my cervix dilating. Since that appointment I've had the period-like cramps coming and going in waves, mixed with Braxton hicks. I'm interested in seeing how much I've dilated (if at all) since last week. I have another appointment this Thursday.

Yes! I'm 38weeks and 3 days and have been already having BH contractions for months now but the past week/ week and a half I've been getting period like cramping off and on as well. Last week my OB checked my cervix and said I was 1cm, 80% and his head was right there! I'm hoping he'll be here soon.

This is my first baby, and I'm 39 weeks I've for the past week or two I've been cramping a little here and there (i don't know what Braxton hicks feels like, but these are def just like period cramps) but today I've been having more intense stronger cramps.hopefully it means somethings happening
