2nd miscarriage- do you know the cause of your miscarriages?

I turned 13 weeks today and also found out that the heart has stopped beating. I just miscarried with my first pregnancy 5 months ago. Since this is my second, they will send the baby off for chromosomal testing and they will also test me for auto immune and blood clotting disorders. I was taking progesterone suppositories so that shouldn't be the cause. Has anyone else been through all this testing and actually found out the cause of the miscarriages?

I had 3 miscarriages in 12 months and went through a bunch of testing -- blood work, ultrasounds, etc. They never found anything abnormal that could have been the cause. Now I'm on my 4th pregnancy and made it to 16 weeks so maybe it was just very, very bad luck.. Hoping I don't go through that again for next child and that this one breaks the cycle. Best wishes <3

I had 5 and 20 week fetal demise 2 years ago, different blood disorder called anti phospholipid antibody syndrome- blood thinners or aspirin  required. So sorry 😞  good luck to you

I was in that boat. Turns out I had a gene mutation in my blood called MTHFR. It's where your body doesn't process/absorb b12 and folate properly which can lead to blood clots. I was put on baby aspirin daily and had a successful pregnancy immediately after starting that. Now I'm on baby number 2 and everything is going great so far. Who knew one tiny pill and a different vitamin could bring a whole life into this world!?

My closest friend had similar experiences with pregmancy. She actually had zero issues pregnant with her first child who she also had zero issues delivering. But a few years later when her and her husband tried for a second child, they had multiple devistating losses. It came to 4 miscarriages in a year, all occured at 6-10 weeks. The doctor determined there was an autoimmune issue which she has been addressing over the past 4 months or so. However she had to see several doctors before this was determined and she really had to learn to advocate for herself and push for testing. Her and her husband also just started going to a fertility specialist.

One thing I know she has told me is that she wishes she went to a fertility doctor earlier on.  I know she feels a lot of comfort speaking to a specialist when before she felt very alone in this situation. So that's what I would fully recommend if you are able.

Also should be taking larger amounts of folate. I'm on 5mg per day! A lot of neural tube defects are fatal and babies can pass away (resulting in miscarriage). Neural tube defects can be reduced by up to 70 - 80% by taking appropriate amounts of folic acid. But some of us have to take ridiculous amounts of it to make sure baby is getting enough folate from the early stages - 5mg daily at least 3 months before conception for optimal levels.
