Cloth diapers?? Good idea or not?

Thinking about using cloth diapers for this baby, I wanted to with my first but truth is I never fully went through with it. Has or does anyone use cloth diapers? Whats your experience and what brands do you recommend? Are there any kind of deals I can get anywhere like Amazon or something? Let me know I'm still kind of going back and forth with the decision!

Used them with my two sons and plan to with my daughter now. When the baby is little a waterproof cover and prefolds or flats is super easy to use and works great. I used thirsties covers. Liners are good to have too bc some babies are sensitive to the wet feeling of cloth. You'll need snappis to hold the prefolds closed under the cover (this is easier and safer than using pins).

When they get to be a bit older (4 months or so) I switched mine to one size pockets. I'd still use the cotton flats as inserts for the pockets bc I think cotton is easier to clean than the microfiber that comes with lots of pockets. It's wise to get snaps instead of Velcro for whatever kind of diapers you invest in when they get older bc Velcro can be very easy for them to open themselves. The OS (one size) diapers can last kids until they're 2+ years. You just adjust how much you insert for absorbency as they get older.

I did it with my son and will be doing it this time also! I love cloth diapers. There's a ton of tutorials on YouTube now. Tons of helpful sites and message boards. It's really not as complicated as it may seem at first. My best friend got me started on them and she is on her third baby and third time using cloth diapers. Big savings, eco friendly.

eBay is amazing for finding deals if you aren't opposed to gently used diapers. I got my complete stash of thirsties and rumparooz diaper covers for only $100, most were practically new. YouTube is an amazing resource for discovering the cloth diapering system that you would like to start with. Based on recommendations from family and friends, I'm using covers with flats and prefolds. Used cloth for my son and plan to use again. It's a steep learning curve at first but once we got in a groove it was totally convenient, easy and no big deal. We used infant prefolds and covers then switched to pocket diapers or all-in-ones once he outgrew the infant prefolds. I'm psyched that I don't have to spend another dollar on more diapers. I bought a lot of my stash used and plan on reselling them after my second child outgrows diapers.

We cloth diaper! It does save money in the end for sure. Main thing is to get your wash routine down. If you're on Facebook, check out Fluff Love & CD Science group!! Great information on there. As far as the type of diapers... It's all what you want to deal with. Prefolds/flats and covers are going to be the most cost effective. I personally like all in two's with the snap in liner (GroVia are my favorite).

I didn't with my oldest. I have thought about it, too. So I went to my local child resell and bought two covers (one is Alva which is at a great price on Amazon for a set) and 4 inserts. I started practicing on my toddler (he is getting close to potty training). I want to get other inserts as these gray microfiber ones are a bit bulky, but, so far, not too bad. I find that with him, 4 inserts and 2 covers last about a day. I also found a strip of flannel to line them with when he needs butt cream or if I suspect a poop coming on.

So far I think I can manage! I will still use disposables at times ( like going out n stuff or for babysitters), but since I am a stay at home mom, I can be a little more diligent about it. I don't have to worry about running out of diapers and scrounging up the cash as much now. That's a relief in itself.

I thought hard about using them but I live in a very small town. I wouldn't mind using them if there was a diaper service here. I don't have time to breastfeed and chase 2 other kids and wash diapers all the time. And by the way they are the smelliest damn things! Disposable diapers get to smelling pretty bad in a trash bag let alone cloth ones laying around waiting to be washed. I'm not against them. I'd love to use them if only we lived somewhere larger with a diaper cleaning service.
