Sociopaths can not change. It doesn't matter if they're narcissistic or not. A sociopath is a sociopath.

No. My mother is a narcissist. And my childhood was HELL living with her. For beginners, she'd steal from my sister and I, lied to us, betrayed our trust, threaten us with violence when we didn't comply, etc. When I was 12 (Sister was 10) she abandoned us to my Grandma, who was there throughout our lives to pick us up and raise us when my mom was in jail and, ultimately, when she decided parenting was too hard and wanted to chase her boyfriend. Since she abandoned us five years ago, she has NEVER called to ask if we needed anything, if we were okay, how life was, and has never came back for us. Due to my Grandma's husband, we no longer live with her but with my sister's dad. I'm much older now and in a serious relationship. She's asked my boyfriend for money, to take her places and pick her up, and to buy her things. She is a truly toxic person who is only in it for herself.

I truly believe she only kept us for so long because my sister came with a CS check and she could utilize us as a way to extract things from people such as money or favors.

I am happy to say the boyfriend she abandoned her children for left her and she is now single and miserable, who denies ever abandoning us.

Narcissists do not care. They do not care about anyone but themselves. If you are in a narcissists life, you are there because they can use you in some way. You are a tool, and they can easily toss you away when you are no longer beneficial. They are also very, very devious and will make you believe they care, that they can change. This is a personality disorder - they will never change.

Research shows that their brain structure and chemistry is way different to a normal healthy brain. They lack certain pathways and regions of the brain that control empathy and etc. I don't think you can change something like that. I can't say if they were born that way but some people are just evil and that's all they'll ever be.

I said no.  But they can change if they want to or only if they have the qualities.  But normally, they don't think they are a narcissist so... no.
