Medical assistants where youuuu at!

Ok so, I'll try not to make this super long..sorry in advance! Currently I am 24 years old and looking to go back to school. I have zero degrees thus far but have a certification. I currently work as a Nursing Assistant at a very huge, well known hospital (not that that really matters too much) and I currently make a little over $25,000 per year with little experience as a nursing assistant prior to this. I want a degree so badly though and have been indecisive as far as what I want to go back to school for. 80% of me wants to become a Medical Assistant HOWEVER everyone I speak to keeps telling me the following things: 1) they don't make much more than what I make now..which is not true because starting off at the hospital I currently work at they make almost $33,000 per year! And 2) it's the same type of work as a Nursing Assistant which is what I already am (which I agree and disagree with)...yes I know it's relatively the same work but I think MA's have better perks (better hours, clinic setting, etc)
Although MA's clearly make more $$ than I do as an NA I can't help but wonder if it's enough to where I want to go and pay back all the financial aid for it...just having a hard time deciding. Are there any Medical Assts on here who have any opinions/suggestions or have gone through this before? I'd like to hear from you!
EDIT: I also just wanted to add I have absolutely no desire to ever become a nurse of any sort lol. After being a nursing assist I know that nursing is not for me. Nursing and medical assisting in my eyes are two completely different things. There are tons of jobs in the medical field that aren't nursing. Just because I don't wish to be a nurse doesn't mean I don't belong or have a passion for a different medical field career.
