Copper IUD

I'm thinking about getting a Copper IUD as I am a college freshman and my boyfriend and I don't want to have children for years and years. I've heard horror stories about the plastic, but not about the copper. I was wondering if anyone has any experiences and/or general information about cost, how many visits it takes, where to go, etc. I have medical insurance but I'm not sure if it's covered!
