When does 2nd trimester start?

I've seen all different dates online, from 12 weeks to 14 weeks...anyone know when the 2nd trimester officially starts?

Depends on the method you are using....
"The development method uses the developmental stages to divide up a pregnancy. The second trimester begins at 12 weeks and the third at 27 weeks.From LMP to 12 weeks, the embryo develops all the major organs.From 12 weeks to 27 weeks the fetus continues developing . At 27 weeks, your baby is considered viable.From 27 weeks on, your baby gets matures and prepares for delivery.
The gestation method divides the 40 weeks of gestation into three equal stages. Using the gestation method, the second trimester begins at 13 weeks 3 days and the third at 26 weeks 6 days.
The conception method splits the 38 weeks after conception development into the three equal trimesters. The two week before conception become part of the first trimester. With this method, the second trimester begins at 14 weeks 5 days and the third at 27 weeks 3 days."

My doctor goes with 12 weeks for the first trimester and 14 weeks in both the second and third trimester. She said the most crucial point is the first 12 weeks and you're typically in the clear after those first 12weeks so that's why she goes by that... Every doctor will say something different tho and go by a different chart.

Glow said 12 my other 2 apps say 14. I did research as well as asked my doctor and it depends on how your due date was determined. Most Dr's determine due date based on your last period so technically close to 2 weeks before conception. If this is the case then  14 weeks is the 1st week of 2nd trimester. If your doctor determined it based on your conception date then 12 weeks because that 2 week windows prior to conception isn't factored.
