Who's seen the hunting ground?

WARNING: The Hunting Ground is a documentary about rape and sexual assault on campus, and the ensuing conversation may be disturbing for some viewers.

I saw it a few days ago, and want to discuss it. I'm a carful person, but I'm going to college soon and it scared me/slash made me very angry. What's been your experience? Are there schools that are particularly good/ bad when it comes to this issue?

Haven't seen it but I moved from a small town in Wyoming to Chicago when I was 18 to go to school. I wasn't so much afraid of that happening at the school itself but in the big city. So I took some precautions and never had any issues the entire 7.5years I lived there. I carried pepper spray everywhere I went for the first year, I never walked with headphones in at night, never left my drink unattended, was always aware of my surroundings, would call a friend and talk on phone and give my location if I felt like someone was being sketchy or following me. It's a scary world we live in but there are things you can do to help lessen the fear/anxiety and make you feel safer!

I saw the movie a few months ago and it made me so angry. I'm a little scared about college now, I start next year. The statistics they showed were daunting. It's horrible that it's such a problem. Colleges wonder why they have a sexual assault problems, but it's because the guys (or girls) that do it KNOW they can get away with it because most college brats are never penalized for it. No expulsion, no jail time, nothing. So it just keeps happening! There's a private Christian university here in Phoenix, AZ that I'm sure hardly has any problems because they have lots of 24 hour security guards roaming the campus all the time and the opposite sex aren't allowed to be in a person's dorm after 11 (on weekends, after 12) and they're not even allowed to go in their actual bedrooms, they have to stay in the sitting area, and the door to the dorm has to stay open. It might sound strict considering everyone that goes there is a legal consenting adult, but it's super affective to preventing sexual assault when you think about it, and they're just trying to uphold their Christian values. I don't know their assualt rates, but I'm sure it's not that high, if there have been any cases at all.
