Belly button infected?

My baby will be 3 weeks old on monday. His cord fell off at about 2 weeks, but i changed his diaper this morning and  noticed hos belly button is very red. Doesnt smell funny, but i dont know what to think? Ive been cleaning it out with q tips, but can i use neosporin or anything on it? Im a ftm and really have no idea Bout this... thanks for any help

It does look infected. You should make a pediatrician appointment ASAP or go to urgent care clinic since it's going to be over the weekend.

By the look of it it's not draining pus. You said it has no smell. So no, not infected. My daughter's belly button was red too, but the diaper was rubbing against it and irritating it. I sent photos of her belly button to my pediatrician and he said it was fine.....to just keep it dry, keep the diaper folded so that it doesn't irritate it, clean it with alcohol if it starts to smell, and let it heal. It will look raw for a couple of days but that's normal. No reason to freak out unless it's bleeding a lot, leaking pus, along with a foul odor.

Someone's baby had some redness around the belly button with no puss or odor and ended up in the NICU because it was infected.
