Umbilical cord stump?

My baby is almost a week old and her umbilical cord stump has started to smell unpleasant. Is this normal?

Answer

Yes - as long as it isn't red/pussy (that would indicate infection) some smell is normal. Just keep it dry and it will fall off soon.
