Dummy/ pacifier use?

Did you use a dummy/ pacifier? If so When did you give your newborn a dummy/pacifier?

They actually recommend dummies during sleep now as it reduces the risk of SIDS somehow, that's what my midwife said when I asked her, if it makes your life easier, use one!

Hi hun

I always said id never use a dummy with my daughter. But when she was 2 weeks old i gave her one in the night. Its no big deal.

She is now 17months old and it has always been strictly for sleep and she knows it doesnt leave her bed. She has no interest in other kids dummys when we are out and she normally spits it out shortly after fallinh asleep.

Her speech is extremely advanced and she has great oral hygiene. 
.dont let people judge you..theyre great little conforters.

I plan on taking it away when she is 2 and fully understands.

My advice is just go with the flow. Aim to not use one hut really it doesnt matter if yiu do. Theyre great sleep aids.

With all four of my children they had them from birth.  Each one took to it differently. My girls used them on occasion but never really took to them. My son's really liked them and they were used consistently. EBF and never had any issues. I weaned the boys off at about 14 months. I could care less about any ones opinion on the matter because research and my pediatricians advice was all I needed. All my kids have beautiful teeth and no speech issues.

I was skeptical and midwives at the hospital said wait at least 2 weeks but my son latched right after birth and has been breastfeeding amazingly. He has a crazy suckling need and so we gave him the pacifier after 3 days.  Was almost back to birth weight after 5 days so obviously not an issue. Whatever works is good 😊

I give mine to baby (she's 1 month, she didn't start liking it until now) after she eats or else she just uses my nipple as a pacifier while she sleeps.

First time I gave it to her was 2 days after birth just to see if she would take it, which she did. The lactation consultant took notice and said that normally she would advise against pacifier or bottle usage until breastfeeding was established, but since my little girl was already at her birthweight (only ever lost 5oz) we clearly had mastered it and felt it was fine as long as she still fed well after giving it to her. Second time I gave it to her was at 3 weeks and we've used it nearly everyday since. Since she's spending more time awake now, it helps for me to put her down to sleep as opposed it her using me as a pacifier and falling asleep at the breast every time. Very useful for bedtime too since that's when she can get the most gassy and fussy.
