Partner just told me he doesn't want kids?!

I don't know how to approach this one ladies, so any advice would be great. We've been together about 6 months, just got a flat together a few weeks ago, everything was going great. I've known from the start that he doesn't really like kids much, which is fine, cause it's gonna be a fair few years before we're in a position to have them before we even get into wanting them or not. But having kids has always been a part of my plan, more so since I became a godmother to my best friend's little boy. I know it's something that will need to be discussed eventually, but is it too soon to have a serious discussion about kids? We're both in it for the long haul, so I have no concerns on that front, I'm just worried that if I leave it now he might think I'm ok with not having kids when I'm not. But then if I bring it up now he might think I'm trying to push him into having kids soon, which is the opposite of what I want... HELP!
