Is there a law in Alabama that I have to allow motherinlaw to have unsepervised time with my child?

She wants you to leave a newborn with her over the weekend? Is she insane?! I can pretty much guarantee you that there are no laws giving her those rights. And if she's threatening you with lawyers I'd cut her off until she gets with the progam.

My advice would be to call a family law attorney in your area. Most would be able to give you the quick answer and if there is for some reason a law that allows for that they would be able to counsel you on how to go about preventing that if you have concerns for your child's safety. Generally as long as rights have not been terminated the parent has all decision making power when it comes to where their child stays.

I couldn't tell you but I can tell you that there's no way in hell I would ever let my mother in law have unsupervised time with my child! She left my niece at home by herself at 2 years old for God knows how long so no she is not to be trusted with my kiddo!

This is what I found online "grandparents petitioning for visitation of their grandchildren to prove, by clear and convincing evidence, that the grandparent has an existing relationship with the grandchild and visitation is in the best interest of the child". The article goes on to make it sound like this only applies if the parents are divorced, the baby was born out of wedlock or one parents rights have been terminated.
