getting paragard removed - does it hurt?

I'm getting my paragard out on Friday after having it in for two and a half years, and I just want to know what to expect? The insertion was the worst pain of my life so I'm worried the removal will be painful too. I'm going prepared with pain medication just to be safe but also when I tried to check my strings the other day I couldn't find them. I know it's possible for them to move up into the cervix and wrap around the coil or they can sometimes fall out, at least that's what the Internet is telling me, and sometimes the gyno has to go in and fish it out with certain tools and that sounds honestly terrifying. What were your removal stories like?
