tampons keep leaking for no reason??

so I've been using tampons for almost 5 years and I've never had a problem with them until about 3 months ago. now, whenever I wear them, they leak when they're not even close to full. I've had tampons leak before obviously because they were too full. but in the past few months I've ruined so many pairs of underwear because my tampons will leak within like an hour or two of using them and when I take them out, there's only a few spots that are covered. does anyone have any thoughts as to why this has been happening? and it's also happening with no matter what brand of tampon I use. and I hate pads so should I try a menstrual cup or something?
