Retained placenta
I had a retained placenta with my son who is now nearly 4. I am currently expecting baby number two! While my first labor didn't go quite as planned it still went well. My water broke but since it was a high leak the doc had to break my water and then gave me pitocin go get things moving. The pitocin was overkill and made me contract hard and every 30 seconds, which shut down my body and I quit dialating. After hours of contractions 30 seconds apart I got an epidural...which of course didn't stick well. But it did relax me enough that I finally had my son! After he was born my placenta didn't come out for nearly two hours. I lost a lot of blood and it had to be manually removed (ouch, even with the epidural). At my last appointment my ob (the same one that delivered my son) told me that it isn't guaranteed, but it is likely to happen again with this baby and that I should plan on getting an epidural. I was really hoping to stay as natural as possible with this one. Has anyone else been though this? Are there other pain options I could discuss with my ob? Im not saying I know 100% I won't want an epidural, but I do want to at least try. I won't of it means extra complications afterwards (we talked about how if I go all natural she will likely have to take me to surgery after baby is born if the placenta doesn't come on its own, and this can cause scarring and other issues that could easily be avoided just by getting the epidural). Any advice is great! Thank you!
