Experience/ Preference on Cloth Diapers?

Question

Really having a hard time deciding between what brand of cloth diapers to use Alva, Kawaii baby, Bumgenius, etc? What's your experience been so far? Do you prefer All in One or Pocket diapers better? Snaps versus velcro? About how many would you get to start? On a budget and trying to spend money wisely.

It's really best try 1 or 2 diapers of a few different brands. Because every baby is built differently, certain brands will fit differently.

I have all three brands you mentioned and personally, I do not care for any of them. My reason being though is my 8.5 month old is long and lean, and with Alvas and Kawaii we get leg gabs. For Bumgenius, my lil guy is a heavy wetter so those just didn't work for us.

The brand I adore and almost exclusively use is Funky Fluff. What I love about these is that they are an ai3 versus ai1. Meaning, they can be used 3 different ways- either as an aio, a pocket diaper or an ai2. These fit my son the best and they are incredibly trim like disposables so he doesn't need to go up a size in clothes at all.

As far as style goes, it's really personal preference. I tried all styles to find what I like best and I found that I prefer pocket style more. Ai2 and prefolds and covers are similar but I prefer ai2 more. The only real difference is that the insert snaps into the cover vs. laying on top. If you're choosing cloth to save money though, prefolds and covers are typically the most affordable (especially if you buy fst towels from walmart or target: found in the dish towel section).

For snaps vs. velcro I prefer snaps. However during the newborn stage I prefer velcro. I also prefer velcro for nighttime because it's easier for those middle-of-the-night-changes. For nighttime we Grovia ONEs. What I like about these is you have the option of using either snaps or velcro. They are the only diaper brand the I know of that offers a velcro option that can be snapped in place easily.

If we are out of Grovia ONEs then I will use my Kawaii diapers which I have stuffed with a sewn fst or bamboo insert (from amazon), a zorb insert (from etsy:  JonaCreastionsBoutique) and a hemp insert (from ebay: I will only but from seller Children_10).

I have Alva pockets. Mainly for the price. I couldn't justify $20 for a diaper that may not work so I started with the cheapies and so far they've been working pretty well . I was going to do the covers but I like that I can put multiple inserts in the pockets if i need to. Plus not having to worry about the inserts moving around and not catching the pee is nice

We will be using mostly pockets, but after finding out that more and more people prefer prefolds and covers, I'll be buying FST from Walmart and using those with my Alva pockets. That way I can use them more than once! I've heard a lot of good things about the brand best bottom from personal friends, but as of now I just have Alva since they have great reviews and are cheap! They are soooo cute.

I bought my diapers from wish.com for $2 each.  Didn't come with inserts so I put inserts on my registery,  I got nice bamboo fabric inserts with great reviews,  12/$28 and  I registered for 5 packs for my 40 diapers.  So far 2 packs have been purchased for us.  Hopefully the rest will be by the time my baby comes,  but if not we at least will have a great head start!

Prefolds and covers are my favorite. I like pockets too, which I stuff with prefolds. Prefolds are just my thing. They're the most absorbent because they have so many layers and they can take a beating and come out fine. We have a little of everything though. I do like having an AIO stash to be able to leave with the sitters.

From my research, multiple brands is the best idea because what works well for one person, might not work for you.
Velcro is the devil, because washing it is a nightmare.
My husband and I decided on pocket diapers and have bought a few newborns as well as one size fits all and because of the snaps, grows with the baby.

I'm going to use All in two/hybrid diapers. They are similar to pockets except you on lay the liner in instead of stuffing it so you only need to replace the cover in the case of a messy poop. Otherwise you only replace the liner. The Flip diapers (by bum genius) have the wick dry lining so that it doesn't sit wet and make baby uncomfortable. I only need to buy 10 covers and 24-30 liners to get away with doing laundry every other day. You can wash both in the washing machine with Tide gentle and free. Hang dry  the covers and you can put the liners in the dryer.

I was going for a budget friendly option as well so I went with prefolds from green mountain diapers and covers from Alva. They are both nice quality - haven't used them yet because my due date is tomorrow and little man isn't here yet. I did a lot of research before I decided the best option for our family. Good luck! There's tons of videos on YouTube to check out but I think it's a lot of trial and error.
