Stop TTC due to possible retrenchment?? Advice need!!

My husband and I decided a month ago that we are going to start trying for baby no 2. We have a beautiful boy that will be 2 in November. This week we found out that there is retrenchment happening at his work in December. Our boy was unplanned so I don't know how long we will have to try for the next baby. Do I go back on the pill until December and stop taking fertility vitamins?? On the on hand I am scared to get pregnant and then we don't have an income to support the new baby, and on the other hand I am scared that that we will have difficulties TTC and if I go back on the pill I am just delaying the process. I don't want a too large age gap between my kids...
