Why do people call their children this??!!

Question

Can someone please explain to me why moms call their kids or child "the littles" seriously why?? I don't get it and I'm sorry but it sounds really confusing too because myself as well as other friends have been like "are they talking about another couple with the last name little" that and it just sounds kind of dumb. Lol can't you just call them by their names or just say "my kids" or somethings like that?? Lol I dunno it's just one of those phrases that gets under my skin, lol you know like how people are with the word "moist" or "ointment" loL

Update! "little one" is fine for me to hear and I even say, that's phrase is no bother to me I just find it a really cheesy and odd sounding phrase

I would call my kids "little ones". It's a shorter version of that title I think. It's a term of endearment

It's just a term of endearment. It also used to be a cartoon way back in the day... The Littles was about little mice people.

I got 7 kids and 6 at home, my older 3 i call the bigs and my younger 3 are my littles, some times its more of convinence when trying to explain something to family or friends.

I refer to my child as the the little one sometimes. Or if we are about to leave, I'll tell my bf to grab little. I also call her tiny. I'll say go grab tiny for me. Or little twin. It's just something I've always done.
