How can I get my son adopted

Well I had my son his 6 now his real dad left when he found out I was pregnant and until today he don't help or see him or call or anything and I don't know anything about him i heard people saying his out of the country and now I'm married and been for 5 and half year now and my husband and I want my husband to adopte him what should I start doing to get this in progress..
