Starting Solids?

We are going to attempt solids in about a week or two but I was wondering:
Should I try it in the morning or in the evening?
LO currently wakes up around 6:45am and we drop him off at Daycare around 7:20am.  We wouldn't really have time in the morning but if it's better that way, we would find a way to make it work. We thought evening might be best. He goes to sleep around 9pm so we were thinking trying solids around 6/7pm?
Also, how much do you start with?
Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated! TIA!
