How many ounces at feeding?

My little one will be 5 months on the 17th. He is EBF, but I send pumped bottles to daycare while I'm at work. I've been sending 3 4oz bottles so he can eat every 3 hours while I'm away. Does this sound right? How much are other mamas giving their babes? 😊

I don't breastfeed (I'm epileptic and baby can't drink my breast-milk, with the medication I'm on.) He will be 5 months on the the 24th and is formula fed.. He gets 7oz of formula every 3-4 hours, he also gets one jar of baby food per day and 1 bottle has rice cereal in it. He's a big boy:) weighs 19lbs and is 27in long. He sleeps for 7 hours at night!

Please research paced feeding! It is a certain way to feed so they are satisfied without overeating. Your LO should not get more than 1-1.25 oz per hour of separation and no more than 4 oz at a time. This prevents overeating and getting a bottle preference. An IBCLC will recommend this as well. Otherwise if you increase what you are feeding your LO their tummy will stretch and no longer be satisfied at the breast as well as mom can't pump enough to 'keep up' while she's away. Most pediatricians are not trained at all in breastfeeding so its very likely they will just tell you to up the oz but that's not neccesary. If you'd like to still EBF I'd highly suggest checking out paced feeding and reaching out to an IBCLC as well :)

Thanks for posting this! I was going to ask something similar. I would like to know as well. I feel like my LO might not be getting enough during the day since shes been up multiple times at night hungry. She also gets 3 4oz bottles while im at work though...
She will eat more than 4 oz if we let her...sometimes up to 6+oz! But does that mean we SHOULD feed her that much? My pump cant keep up 😩lol ftm here too so any advice is appreciated

We are using 3 4oz bottles a day while I'm at work.... He is 5months on the 18th and is on a 3 hour schedule as well. ☺️

Sounds about right to me. Mine does more like 3 oz at a time about every 2.5 hours. I send about 17-20 oz and my MIL makes the bottles out of that and freezes the leftover which is usually 4-8 oz depending on the day.

My son was 5months on the 4th, he eats 8oz bottles every 4 hours give or take. Some days he gets a jar of baby food. He sleeps 10-12 hours a night! He's 21 pounds & 27inches!

I send 2 4 oz bottles and 1 5 oz bottle. But he usually only eats one 4 and the 5 oz. The third is an extra just in case. I also get to go feed him at lunch from the breast so I only pump twice a day. I struggle to get 8-9 oz out of my 2 pumps. He stays on a pretty good every 3 hour feeding schedule, but when hes with me will go longer.

So happy to see these posts. When my LO started day care she was getting 4 ounces every 2-4 hours usually 2-3 total while I was gone. Since starting official day care she's up to 6 ounces for three feedings but the day care lady says she's acting hungry every two hours. I am struggling to keep up with pumping enough breast milk. When she's home with me she easily goes 3-4 hours between feedings. I'm going to ask her dr today how much is recommended for her age. She's not too chubby so I don't want to be starving her either!

My daughter is about 5.5 months old now and does 7oz every 4hrs now. At two months we were doing 4oz every 3hrs, then about three months she was doing 5oz every 3-4hrs then at 4 months she did 6oz every 4hrs. Now at 5 months does 7oz every 4hrs. My schedule for this month is working 8-5 pretty much so I sent a 11AM 7oz bottle and a 3PM 7 oz bottle. All pumped breast milk. I breastfeed her around 7AM when we get up. Then when we get home, I feed her about an ounce or so of baby food at around 6. Then we start time time routine at 7:30PM and I breastfeed her around 7:45PM. She usually gets up around 11PM and 2AM to breastfeed. She is 36th percentile for weight and 97th for height!

I send 4 4oz bottles but she almost always comes home with one extra. My daughter is eating about the same amount. She'll be 5 months on the 19th. She's pretty small for her age though; I think she's like the 7th percentile but she's on track for gaining weight still.
