Taking out my own IUD

We're wanting to start TTC but I have an IUD. I did some research and it's going to cost almost $200 to get it removed. I did more research and found that some people have successfully removed their IUDs at home. Is this safe? Id love to save the money if I can.

Side question: will I potentially be able to get pregnant right after taking it out? Or will it take a few months to get back to normal?
