Estimated weights vs. Actual birth weights?

Question

I just went and saw my GD OB and they estimated my baby at nearly 9 lbs already. I am 38 weeks and 4 days. They said it's likely she'll gain another half pound at least in the next week and that even if I go early they wouldn't be surprised if she was over 9 lbs. I am desperately hoping they are overestimating!! Anyone else have this happen? Praying to hear good news from other moms who's babies weren't actually as big as they were predicted to be based on ultrasounds.

UPDATE: My daughter was born 6 days early and she was only 7 lbs even. Needless to say they were quite off. Still ended up with a c-section, largely due to their estimates. Needless to say I wasn't to thrilled.

I have GD too. I also had it with my first. She was estimated over 8 lbs but was only 7 lb 10 oz. relatively average sized.

I had GD with my daughter and they told me at 36 weeks she would be around 9lb but I had her a week later and she was 6lbs.

Last week at my 32 week appointment my doctor said the ultrasounds could be off as much as a pound either way.

My sister was told that me niece would be over 9 lbs by her due date. She was born a couple days after her due date and was just over 7lbs. I would try not to stress too much about it.

His weight at 39 weeks when he was born, 8 lbs 13 ounces.

The doctor guessed my baby would be about 7.5 lbs just by feeling my tummy, but he was actually 8lb and 6oz. With GD. I don't remember what they said on my last ultrasound.

I was told Milo would be huge like 10-11 pounds. My ultrasound at 37 weeks estimated 7-8 pounds. Milo was born at 39 weeks and a day and he was 6 pounds 5 ounces.

36 weeks estimated 7lb 5oz. Said baby would be 10lbs+ if I went to term. Induced at 38 weeks, he weighed 8lbs.

The estimated weight on u/s is within 20% either way.  They estimated 7lbs at 38 weeks for me.  My son was born at 39w1d and 7lbs 3ozs.  So, yeah right on.

At my 37 week ultrasound they predicted my baby would be 7.11 if born on his due date. I was a week late and he was 8.3, so I'd say they were right on. I ended up having a csection for other reasons not due to size.

A girlfriend of mine also had GD, though, and they predicted her baby would be 9lbs, but she was only 7.9 - I think it depends on the technology of the ultrasound, and the techs/docs not assuming the notion of GD = big babies! Good luck!
