what's the difference between Muslin blankets and receiving blankets ?

Should we have both ? Why ?

I have a few muslin blankets. They are pretty and so soft.  I mostly use them for swaddling or when baby is sleeping. I use recieving blankets more for nursing and burping.

I would maybe get one of each but don't open them right away if you get new ones. My daughter only liked being wrapped up in her fuzzy blanket and didn't like other kids. I got over $100 back from the three different packs of blankets/swaddlers I got that my daughter wouldn't use

I would recommend getting both. Muslin blankets are actually made of gauze so they are very light and soft.

Muslin is bigger, softer and lighter. That's what we're going with.

They are pretty much used for the same things (nursing and swaddling), however muslin blankets are really popular right now because most of them are much larger than your typical receiving blanket. So swaddling with a muslin blanket is often easier. Plus the material is much lighter and more breatheable. 
Receiving blankets are thicker and smaller, which makes them good for using as burp cloths.

We love the muslin blankets because they don't feel as hot as a regular blanket. My 5 month old loves having one she can hold and chew on. It's super hot in where we are, so we don't anything that will make her hotter. It's also bigger than the regular receiving blankets. If I had the muslin blankets when we were swaddling, I might have been able to use those instead of the Velcro ones!

When I had my son, the receiving blankets were about half the size of the Aiden and Anai muslim blankets. He outgrew them too fast. Look at the sizes in the description.
