Induction without pain relief?

Question

Have any of you been induced & gone without an epidural or pain meds? I've gone my whole pregnancy saying I want to go natural, and now I'm worried about what will happen if I have to be induced. My doc doesn't want me to go too far past my due date because she says my pre-pregnancy BMI puts me at a higher risk for complications if I do. Any input? Thanks in advance!

Had my first 2 babies by induction... without pain relief... i just crunched on ice chips. They were 8.11 and 9.7.  I was 18 years old with the first and was at a birthing centre where it just wasnt available... so from there I knew it could do it with the next. It wasn't comfortable but it was not as bad as I expected. I just kept thinking once its out the pain will be gone....

I was induced and had my baby without pain relief.  I was already 3-4 cm dilated when I went in so I was only on pitocin for 2 hours before they broke my water, and an hour after that she was born.  It went so fast that there was no time for an epidural and I'm grateful because the process was so much faster.  Every situation varies but I've always heard induction hurts more than natural labor because you're forcing your body to do something it's not necessarily ready for.  I definitely would not rule out the choice to have an epidural but it does sometimes slow labor.

I was induced and tried to do it without pain medication. But it turned out that induction was much more painful than my first labor. Near the end of labor, I had two shots of Stadol, a narcotic, to help me relax. It made me feel loopy, but took the edge off the pain. By the time I started pushing, the drug had worn off, which was how I wanted it. If I had to be induced again, however, I would strongly consider an epidural because induction was much more painful than going into labor naturally.

I was induced with my last 3 no meds all natural, even labored in the tub and delivered standing beside the bed. Good luck to you!

Labour is not garunteed to be longer or more painful just because your induced. I was induced, went pain meds free, and labour was only two and a half hours plus an hour pushing. Its different for everyone. Depends on your pain threshold. Also, it depends on how ready your body is before they start the induction. I was already 2cm and fully effaced so all they did was brwak my waters and turn on the drip. If your cervix isn't ready and requires cervadil or gel, then it'll likey take longer than if your cervix is already ready. Just see how you go at the time, you may not even need an induction so dont stress! It's not as bad as every one makes it out to be.
