The pertussis portion of the DTaP is thought to protect 7 out of 10 the first year and that number declines quickly. After just four years, 3 out of 10 are thought to be "protected". Studies have shown that individual who receive 3+ doses of DTaP have far greater chances of being infected with pertussis than non vaccinated individuals. This information is straight from the CDC.
